Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that the Nerazzurri showed that some of their recent stumbles in Serie A don’t define them with their 3-1 win over Lazio this afternoon.

Speaking to InterTV after the match at the San Siro, via FCInterNews, the Armenian stressed that the Nerazzurri have a hunger to prove that they are better than some of their recent results in the league would suggest.

Inter have certainly not been in their best period over the past few weeks in Serie A.

Whilst two wins on the bounce against Empoli and Lazio go some way towards putting the Nerazzurri back to where they want to be in the table, there is no looking past what four losses and one draw in five straight matches prior to the match against Empoli represents.

However, in truth, there has been a real case to be made that the performances in losses against Spezia, Fiorentina, and Monza were not those of a weak team, and this was certainly the message that came out from the players and coach.

Now, Inter have produced a real statement win against Lazio, dominating and never giving up even after going a goal down to send a message to both their fans and their rivals in the league.

“We controlled the match from the first minute on,” Mkhitaryan said afterwards, “but unfortunately we conceded.”

“But we didn’t give up, we fought until the end and we won the match thanks to the substitutions.”

“There is one month left in the league, we want to give our all, win matches and finish top four,” the 34-year-old former Roma and Arsenal man said.

“It’ll be a tough month, but we’re ready.”

“We hope this win can give us even more confidence, we have a very strong squad and whoever plays gives their all to help the team win,” Mkhitaryan said.

“Those of us who started gave everything, and then the players who came off the bench gave us a big hand.”

“I know well enough that we don’t count the results until the finish line,” Mkhitaryan said of Inter’s season, “we want to succeed and show that some of the slip-ups during the league season don’t reflect our actual worth.”
