Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has been named as the Nerazzurri’s best performer in a 3-1 Serie A win over Lazio yesterday evening.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosprt lavished the 30-year-old Croatian international with an 8/10 score in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, declaring that he “hasn’t looked this sharp since the World Cup.”
It has not been the kind of season that had been expected from Brozovic, who was easily one of Inter’s most important players last season leading to a contract extension until the end of June 2026, but has not been the same consistent presence this time around.
The Croat has suffered from two separate muscle injuries which have both seen him miss significant amounts of time recovering, and in the meantime has seen his automatic starting place at the base of midfield usurped by Hakan Calhanoglu.
There have been reports that Brozovic is set to leave Inter in the summer, with suggestions of a rift opening up with the club.
However, none of this was evident in the 30-year-old’s display against Lazio yesterday, with Tuttosport arguing that he was the very best player on the pitch.
Brozovic was at the heart of Inter’s midfield, and his work on both sides of the ball was vital to Inter controlling the tempo all match.
The Croat cleaned up defensively on numerous occasions, and when the Nerazzurri had the ball he was always making himself an option and keeping things ticking over – Lazio’s midfield trio of Danilo Cataldi, Luis Alberto, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could hardly keep up.
Broaovic has not often played at this level for Tuttosport in what has been an inconsistent and injury-hit campaign for him, but as Tuttosport, showed some of his absolute best football at the World Cup as he helped Croatia to reach a semifinal.
Against the Biancocelesti yesterday evening, the newspaper argues, the same Brozovic was finally seen in an Inter shirt.
