Referee Marco Guida has been praised for getting the major decisions right during Inter’s 3-1 Serie A win over Lazio.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, argue that the official always had a good handle on proceedings and made no errors as there was nothing in the way of refereeing controversy on the day.

The first decision that Guida had to make, together with his VAR Daniele Chiffi, was to disallow what looked to have been an opening goal for Inter, scored by midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian had finished off an impressive team move that cut through midfield, but there always looked to be a hint of offside in the run of Joaquin Correa as he received a pass from Marcelo Brozovic to set up Mkhitaryan.

Guida and the rest of the officiating did not have to take much time to make a decision, and for the Corriere it was positive that the referee was able to arrive at what was clearly the correct decision and do so without wasting too much time.

The second major decision that the official had to make concerned Inter’s second goal, which proved to be the match-winner.

Early on in the buildup for the goal which was scored by Robin Gosens from a Romelu Lukaku, the ball had been won back off of Lazio forward Pedro by Nerazzurri midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

The Croat’s challenge came in from behind the Spaniard, with the Biancocelesti player appealing for the foul to be given.

However, in real time Guida waved away the Lazio player’s appeal, arguing that Brozovic had successfully gotten in to win the ball off of his opposite number to set up the Nerazzurri possession that proved to result in a winning goal.

For the Corriere, the official got it spot-on.
