Former Juventus and Bologna midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi feels that the pressure will be on Inter to win the Coppa Italia as favourites in the final of the competition against Fiorentina.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, the former midfielder suggested that the Nerazzurri will feel virtually obliged to get the better of La Viola in the final of the competition this season.

Last season Inter beat Juventus in the final of the Coppa Italia, having overcome Roma in the quarterfinals before beating AC Milan over two legs in the semifinals.

This time around, it was in the semifinals of the competition that Inter met the Bianconeri, overcoming them 1-0 in the second leg after a first leg that ended 1-1 after the dust of a scandal-ridden ending to the match settled.

On the other side of the bracket, the likes of Napoli and Roma both fell to Cremonese for the Lombard team, currently struggling to avoid relegation to Serie B, to become improbable semifinalists.

Meanwhile, AC Milan also went out in the round of sixteen after an extra time defeat against Torino, and then Fiorentina beat both the Granata and Cremonese to book their place in the final.

Whilst the Nerazzurri will hardly be underestimating this Viola team, not least because they lost to them in the league at the start of last month, there is a sense that this is a final without a clear favourite, something which is not usually the case in the Coppa Italia.

Accordingly, Marocchi feels that the pressure is on Inter somewhat to ensure that they get the win.

“Inter will have to win the Coppa Italia,” the former Bianconeri midfielder argued, “the pressure will be on them as they’re favourites against Fiorentina in the final.”

He also remarked about the two-legged Champions League semifinal between Inter and AC Milan that “Billy [Costacurta, ex-Rossoneri defender] told me how that’s a match that you absolutely can’t lose, it would leave a real sporting stain.”
