Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri was furious with his players in the dressing room in the aftermath of his team’s 3-1 Serie A loss away to Inter yesterday afternoon.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInter1908, who report that the 64-year-old particularly raged at the manner in which the Biancocelesti conceded their third goal of the night to Lautaro Martinez late on.

Lazio were always set to be in for a tough afternoon away at the San Siro, but they came into yesterday’s match with the confidence of having climbed up the table into second spot in recent weeks.

It was not the easiest of starts as the Nerazzurri spent much of the first half controlling possession and territory, and piling on attempts at goal, but the Biancocelesti held out with the kind of rock solid defending that has seen them reach a firm foothold in the top four of the table.

The Nerazzurri looked as though they had broken through, however, but Lazio got a reprieve as they then capitalized on a Francesco Acerbi error in possession to score the match’s opening goal through Felipe Anderson.

Even in the second half, at least at first, Lazio were doing everything that they could to hold on, whilst still looking to pose a real threat on the counterattack.

However, as the second half wore on this diminished as Inter really piled on the pressure.

From Sarri’s perspective, his team did not do enough to be brave, physical, or technically assured in the midfield battle, and this was what allowed the Nerazzurri to really ratchet up the pressure as the match went on.

Moreover, the former Juventus, Chelsea, Napoli, and Empoli coach was not pleased with some of the sloppiness that started to emerged.

The cheap giveaway by substitute midfielder Matias Vecino and the subsequent defensive breakdown by a side who looked to have lost a lot of their shape as they chased a late equalizer were apparently the last straw for Sarri, La Repubblica reports.

The coach is reported to have really driven home to his players in the dressing room how unhappy he was with the manner in which they capitulated in a match where they looked capable of taking all three points until very late on.
