AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni has thoroughly quashed the idea that the Rossoneri could renovate the existing San Siro together with Inter.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Anch’Io Lo Sport, via FCInterNews, Scaroni made very clear that the notion of renovating the stadium is not an option that’s on the table, and that the clubs are looking for another solution.

There is still very little certainty around what Inter and Milan’s plans will be for the coming years as far as the stadium situation.

Whilst the clubs had been pushing for several years to try and get approval to start construction on a planned new stadium that would replace the San Siro, this has still not arrived as the bureaucratic obstacles have mounted.

This has led to the clubs, and Milan in particular, losing patience, with it being widely reported that the Rossoneri have been seriously looking into the possibility of building in an entirely different area, on their own.

One bit of certainty that has been provided by Milan President Scaroni, however, is that whatever the plans end up being, they will not involve the existing stadium.

If Inter and Milan are not able to demolish the existing San Siro and build an altogether new facility in its place, they would have to look for alternate plans.

The two clubs see an entirely new stadium as essential to modernizing their revenues and increasing revenues, and Scaroni has left no doubt that staying in the existing one and substantially refurbishing it is not seen as a viable plan.

“It would be impossible to do heavy renovations of the existing stadium,” the Rossoneri President made clear regarding the notion of staying in the current stadium.

For that reason, he noted that “We, Milan and Inter, are currently looking around for another solution.”
