Former Inter, Bologna, Roma, and Salerntiana Sporting Director Walter Sabatini is confident that either the Nerazzurri or AC Milan will be able to go on and win the Champions League this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport, via FCInter1908, the former Nerazzurri executive gave his thoughts ahead of the upcoming Milan derby Champions League semifinal, including the view that whichever of the two city rivals prevails will go on to win the trophy.

Inter and Milan will both feel that they have an excellent opportunity before them to reach the biggest match in European club competition.

However, each of the pair of city rivals will be well aware of how difficult the two-legged derby semifinal promises to be.

Then, whichever of the two makes it to the final could be feeling that they will face an even more difficult challenge in the form of either Manchester City or Real Madrid.

The two sides on the other side of the brackets from the Milan clubs are regarded by many as being considerably stronger sides than the derby rivals, with both having been considered to be among the favourites to win the competition before it even started.

However, for his part, Sabatini has hope that one of the two teams from Serie A still left in European competition will be able to go all the way this season.

The executive has been inspired by what he’s seen so far from both Inter and Milan, and feels that they would be capable of lifting the trophy.

“Inter or Milan will win the Champions League,” he said, “I have no doubt.”

“It will be the moment that well and truly redeems Italian football,” he added.

“Serie A is the most competitive league, and it has the best coaches,” Sabatini argued of the Italian top flight.
