Former AC Milan and Inter Milan fullback Francesco Coco reveals where his allegiance lies ahead of the EuroDerby.

The two crosstown rivals will clash heads in a universally-anticipated Champions League semi-final. While both matches will take place at the iconic San Siro Stadium, the Rossoneri will “host” the first leg on May 10, while the Nerazzurri will be the designated home side in the second leg on May 16.

Throughout the years, several players have donned the jerseys of both clubs, including Francesco Coco who started his playing career at Milan before making a crosstown switch to Inter in 2002.

In his first season with the Beneamata, the two clubs met in the Champions League semis, in what was obviously an emotional affair for the Italian.

Milan won the double-tie thanks to the away goal rule, so Coco is pleased that this stipulation has been ditched recently.

“These are matches where you climb to Mount Everest if you win and you get hurt if you lose,” says Coco in his interview with Corriere della Sera via FcInterNews.

“It was harsh to be eliminated after two draws. Luckily, they revised the away goals rule.

“I understand that some fans would have preferred to challenge other teams, but you can’t deny the grandeur of a European derby. It will be history, an event to tell your children and grandchildren that you were there.”

While he had a past with both clubs, Coco revealed that he’ll be rooting for Milan who were his original club.

“As in every derby, there is no favorite. Certainly Inzaghi seems to have a knack for winning cup ties. The head will count more than the technique. Personally, I will support Milan.”

The 46-year-old joined Inter on the back of an exchange deal that saw Clarence Seedorf heading in the opposite direction, but he reveals that he would have signed for the Nerazzurri regardless of the Dutchman’s transfer.

“I would have gone to Inter anyway. Moratti and Oriali courted me for months during my experience at Barcelona.

“I was on loan from Milan, where I had some problems with then-coach Fatih Terim. Carlo Ancelotti then took over and tried to bring me back to Milan, but by then, I had already chosen Inter.”
