Inter Milan corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello insists that staying at the iconic San Siro Stadium remains the club’s priority.

In recent years, the Nerazzurri and their crosstown rivals AC Milan have been trying to establish a new modern ground that allows the two Serie A giants to generate improved Match Day incomes.

Nevertheless, the chaotic bureaucracy in Italy has been hindering their attempts at every corner, and the entire project has seemingly been put on ice.

While the two Milanese clubs were initially set to build another common ground referred to as “The Cathedral”, it was recently suggested that each club is now working on a separate project.

However, Inter Milan CEO Alessandro Antonello claims that the tearing down the San Siro and building a new Stadium where the old one remains today is the priority, as it is a classic football area.

“At [Benfica’s Stadium] Da Luz, there are 120 skyboxes while the San Siro only has 30,” revealed the Nerazzurri official in an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore via FCInterNews.

“This gives you a perception of what the new facility can offer. But I want to reassure the fans.”

“I take this opportunity to reiterate our position. We have worked consistently and professionally, always saying that new San Siro is the main project because the location represents the history of Italian and Milanese football.

“We have always maintained this position, even recently when Milan said they wanted to search for other areas.

“We believe that it remains the optimal choice. Clearly, if Milan decide to build a new facility elsewhere, we will proceed with this project. But Inter can’t remain held by political postponements.”

“We cannot tolerate this state of uncertainty for too long, so Inter too must think of alternative plans if we can’t find a solution at the San Siro.”
