Inter Milan goalkeeper André Onana is being linked with a £40-million move to Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer market.
The news was reported by British newspaper The Telegraph via FcInterNews, claiming that the Blues have identified the Cameroonian shot-stopper as the ideal candidate to guard their goal next season.
Despite a frenzy spending spree that followed the takeover of new owner Todd Boehly, the Premier League giants are enduring a miserable season, currently sitting 12th in the league standings.
The source understands that the West Londoners are on the cusp of reaching an agreement with Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino.
This would be followed by some additional shakeups in the squad, including the goalkeeper’s department.
The report claims Chelsea will sell Edouard Mendy following his disappointing campaign and will attempt to sign Onana as his replacement, while maintaining the services of Kepa as a backup.
The Inter Milan custodian rose to fame during his time at Ajax, before making a free transfer to the Serie A giants last summer.
After sitting in the dugout for the first stretch of the campaign, the 27-year-old eventually usurped club captain Samir Handanovic, cementing himself as the undisputed number one in Simone Inzaghi’s pecking order.
While selling Onana would be provide a major windfall from a player who only signed on a Bosman deal a year ago, it remains to be seen if the Nerazzurri would be willing to deprive themselves from the services of one of the finest goalkeepers in Europe.
