Inter Milan have the experience of striker Edin Dzeko to thank for their recovery in recent weeks, according to Italian journalist Fabio Caressa.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has helped Simone Inzaghi’s side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, whilst a 3-1 win over Lazio and a 6-0 thumping of Hellas Verona have seen Inter strengthen their hold on a top four finish in Serie A.

Caressa made these remarls on his YouTube channel when picingk his team of the round for Match Day 33 in Serie A, and as reported via Milan based Inter Milan news-site FcInterNews.

Caressa argued that Dzeko was pivotal to Inter recovering their season after a period of awful form after Christmas, and that the former Roma and Manchester City striker had provided vital knowhow and experience.

“He has regained his smile, his fitness, a bit of everything,” Caressa said of the 37-year-old.

“He’s very experienced: it’s no coincidence that Inter’s most experienced players have managed to get to the top because they know that this is the decisive moment.

“It seems to me that Inter are as close to full strength as they were at the beginning of the season. When he plays with Lautaro Martinez, when they run together everything becomes easier.”

Caressa also lavished praise on midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu after a stunning goal against Verona in midweek, and was impressed with the display of Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the victory at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

“Everyone exalts Inter’s attack after the win in Verona but in my opinion the department that got fuel and acceleration back was the midfield.

“In the derby against AC Milan for example, I think Barella can be decisive, however even when Calhanoglu and Brozovic play now there is a balance.

“Calhanoglu played in the Croatian’s position for half the season and had adapted to that job there and when Inzaghi put them back together there was some confusion about who was supposed to do what.

“The Turk is a player I have loved for a long time and at Inter he has found his dimension more than at Milan. He is playing with great consistency and he is strong as an insertion player and strong when he plays as a regista.

“The best version of Inter in my opinion this year has been with Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan and Barella, but when Brozo is fit he makes all the difference in the world.

“He is not the second midfielder I have included though, because Mkhitaryan has been playing with extraordinary consistency, Inzaghi never takes him off and together with Acerbi he is one of the untouchables for a reason: he gives great solidity, movement and has genius, as well as great experience.”

Inter travel to the Stadio Olimpico to face Dzeko and Mkhitaryan’s former club Roma in Serie A, as they look to maintain their position in the top four in Serie A.
