Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan insisted that the Nerazzurri are looking to secure a win over Roma in Serie A today before facing AC Milan in the Champions League.

Speaking to Inter’s in-house television channel InterTV, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Mkhitaryan admitted that he was expecting a difficult encounter against his former club, but hoped it could prove to be a good platform to build on for the Derby della Madonnina.

“It will be a very difficult match, they are very strong at home, they are very aggressive,” the former Armenia international claimed.

“But we want to play a great game, we want to improve our position and we also want to win to prepare well for the derby.

“We expect a very difficult match, we know that Roma play very well at home even if they have injuries. There are players who can replace them and they will do well tonight. We have to be focused and play our best game.”

The former Manchester United and Arsenal midfielder spent three seasons at Roma and admitted that Inter would come up against a fiery atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico.

“It will be difficult, we have to be calm. We have to pay attention to their fans who are very passionate and then we have to win, to make our position even better.”

Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan also conducted an interview with Italian television broadcaster DAZN, as reported by FCInterNews.it, and insisted that the Nerazzurri were not getting ahead of themselves.

“We expect a very difficult match. Roma are very strong even despite the absences. We know their strength, but we are ready to play and win,” he claimed.

“The Champions League derby? We must think about this match first, then we’ll think about Milan.

“We have to be 100% concentrated and do our best today. We have an idea of being concentrated and fight to the end because every game is different so we have to fight to play at our best,” he concluded.

Mkhitaryan scored 29 goals in 117 appearances for Roma before joining Inter as a free agent last summer.
