Inter Milan beat Roma 2-0 away on Match Day 34 of the 2022/2023 Serie A season, after a goal in each half from Federico Dimarco and Romelu Lukaku but where Marcelo Brozovic was the best player on the pitch, which is reflected in the SempreInter.com Inter Milan player ratings.

The Nerazzurri started the game as they have in recent matches: patiently and calmly working themselves into the game, not allowing themselves to be stressed in either phase.

Roma started deeper and more cautiously adopting a more defensive approach as expected given their injury woes giving Inter the ball and the initiative.

Simone Inzaghi’s men created a few half-chances before breaking the deadlock in the 33rd minute when a beautiful Marcelo Brozovic through ball found Denzel Dumfries who crossed it to Federico Dimarco who broke the deadlock.

In the second half, Roma pushed up higher and more intensely increasing the tempo, taking over control of the opening 15 minutes, but failing to create anything of significance against a well organized Inter defence.

Then Roger Ibañez does what he always does: make a headless mistake allowing substitute Lautaro Martinez to serve the ball up for Romelu Lukaku to double Inter’s lead with a distinctive finish.

That win was Inter’s fifth consecutive win in all competitions and fourth one on the trot in the Serie A as well as fourth clean sheet in last five matches across Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

And now it’s time for the first leg of the Champions League semifinal against AC Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan’s San Siro district, this Wednesday, May 10th, kick-off 21.00 CET.

Inter Milan Player Ratings Vs Roma

André Onana – 7,5: Made several incredible reactionary saves with his fingertips, cementing the idea that Inter should not sell him.

Matteo Darmian – 6,5: His versatility is something that goes under the radar, played different positions today, all incredibly well.

Francesco Acerbi – 6,5: Solid match today from the Italian veteran, hardly putting a foot wrong in the middle of Inter’s back line.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6: A very quiet performance today. Was not called into action much in the first half and an injury-scare in the second.

Denzel Dumfries – 6,5: An incredible back-post ball to find Dimarco on the opening goal. A decent outing today putting his strength to use.

Nicolo Barella – 7: No goal contributions but his presence is always felt in the middle of the park, often Inter’s most creative outlet.

Marcelo Brozovic (C) – 8 (MOTM): With Brozovic picking up form after a long-term injury, so too is Inter. Integral to the team, a machine and the brains.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 6: Was essentially marked out of the match and felt it incredibly hard to produce anything today. Could use new studs.

Federico Dimarco – 7: Picked up his twelfth goal contribution in all competitions today, only one of two defenders in Europe to do so. Underrated.

Joaquin Correa – 5: Unable to make a real impact on the match. Hard to see how his future at Inter continues past this season, poor outing.

Romelu Lukaku – 7,5: Found the goal deservedly after a good performance. Gave the opposing defence trouble with his strength for 90 minutes.

Substitutes

Raoul Bellanova – 6,5: Brought on in the 60′ for Denzel Dumfries. Showed bursts of pace and flashes of nice dribbling that Inter lack. Refreshing.

Lautaro Martinez – 6,5: Replaced compatriot Correa in the 60′ minute and immediately pressed a tired Roma defence. Assisted Inter’s second.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6: Substituted on in the 71′ minute for Hakan Calhanoglu and provided extra defensive stability while being an attacking presence.

Stefan de Vrij – 6: Entered in the 71′ for Federico Dimarco. Locked it down in the back and made an incredible block on a possible Roma goal.

Roberto Gagliardini – N/A: Came on in the 82′ minute for Nicolo Barella. Did not play enough to be rated.

Manager

Simone Inzaghi – 7,5: A tough away match in a hard run of fixtures and got everything absolutely spot on. Tactically, game-management, everything.

Referee

Fabio Maresca – 5: No real major calls to make yet let the match become extremely scrappy towards the end of the first half. Poor management.

Team Performance

Inter – 7: A deserved win against a tough defensive Roma side where both teams are aiming for top 4. Nothing to complain about.
