As he comes up against Roma coach Jose Mourinho in Serie A today, Inter tactician Simone Inzaghi is hoping to emulate the Nerazzurri legend by lifting the Champions League with the club before departing.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, as reported via Milan based Inter news-site FCInterNews.

According to the report, Inzaghi is expected to leave Inter this summer after a turbulent season and a prolonged spell of poor form after Christmas, with the club failing to build on last season’s title challenge.

However, the former Lazio coach has led the Nerazzurri to the semi-finals of the Champions League, with a tie against AC Milan to come, as they seek a first success in the competition since Mourinho led them to glory as part of an unprecedented treble in 2010.

Should Inter lift the Champions League this season, it is argued that Simone Inzaghi could win a mini-treble, thanks to the Supercoppa Italiana won in January and the upcoming Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina.

Meanwhile, today’s showdown with Roma has further significance thanks to the manner in which Mourinho left Inter.

The Portuguese coach quit after winning the Champions League, and Inzaghi is aiming to depart in a similar fashion after success in Europe.
