Ex-AC Milan Striker Alessandro Matri: “Inter Milan Control Possession Better With Marcelo Brozovic”

Former AC Milan striker Alessandro Matri believes that Inter have improved thanks to the upturn in form of midfielder Marcelo Brozovic in recent weeks.

Appearing as a pundit for Italian television broadcaster DAZN yesterday, and as reported by Milan based Inter Milan news-site FCInter1908, Matri argued that Croatia international Brozovic had returned to his best after a difficult season plagued by injuries.

Matri suggested that Brozovic ought to partner Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Milan on Wednesday, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan dropping to the bench instead.

“Since Brozovic came back, Inter have held possession and are playing better,” the ex-Juventus and Sassuolo striker declared.

“Calhanoglu has the numbers, goals and assists and has a certain weight. With both on the pitch, the team is improving a lot in handling the ball. I would keep Mkhitaryan out against Milan.”

Brozovic has made 24 Serie A appearances for Inter this season, as well as a further six in the Champions League and two in the Coppa Italia.

The former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder has been hampered by injuries, with a thigh strain on international duty in September ruling him out for almost two months, and a muscle injury in Croatia’s 3-0 World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina delaying his return to action in the new year.
