Whilst no decision has been made on the future of coach Simone Inzaghi yet, Inter have identified a potential successor in the form of Bologna coach Thiago Motta should Inzaghi be sacked.

This is according to today’s print edition of Rome-based daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport, as reported via Milan based Inter Milan news-site FcInter1908.

According to the report, the Nerazzurri are still weighing up whether to retain Inzaghi for a third season after a campaign in which Inter have failed to muster a title challenge.

However the Nerazzurri have reached the Champions League semi-final and could lift the trophy for the first time since 2010 and are in the final of the Coppa Italia.

The former Lazio coach also saw a Scudetto challenge fall away at the death last season, with Inter pipped to the title late in the campaign by bitter rivals AC Milan, heaping pressure on Inzaghi.

Should Inter decide to part with Inzaghi, they have already set in place plans to make an approach for Bologna coach Motta and will pursue him over the summer.

Inter Milan Treble Hero The Ideal Replacement

Motta enjoyed three hugely successful seasons as a midfielder for Inter between 2009 and 2012, winning the Serie A title, Champions League, and Coppa Italia with the club, and has made a positive start to his coaching career with Genoa, Spezia, and Bologna.

However, should Inzaghi lead Inter to the Champions League final and secure a top four finish in the league, it is reported that it would be difficult for the club’s hierarchy to dismiss him at the end of the season.
