AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli admits he was left puzzled by the assessment of Rafael Leao’s recent injury, as the Portuguese star remains a major doubt for tomorrow’s Champions League clash.

The Rossoneri will be the official hosts in the first leg 0f the UCL semifinal, but Leao’s condition has dominated the headlines in recent days.

The 23-year-old sustained an injury during Milan’s 2-0 win over Lazio on Saturday, forcing him to exit the pitch in the first minutes.

The Diavolo have been sweating over the attacker’s condition, but when the results of the medical test came out, even Pioli struggled to understand the context.

“I too searched for the word ‘elongation’ on Google when the results of the exams came out,” admitted the Milan coach in his pre-match press conference as reported by FcInterNews.

“He’ll be here tomorrow morning and try to overcome it. He could even play, but only if he’s OK.

“Either he plays or he won’t be selected for the bench, it will depend on the intensity of the work he’ll be able to do.

“Based on the characteristics of the player, Leao is someone who must be 100% to make the difference.”

The former Lazio and Inter manager is demanding extraordinary efforts from his Milan players to secure a positive result on Wednesday.

“We must put a great team effort worthy of the Champions League semifinal. We have been a team suffering and struggling. Something extraordinary will be needed.”
