Inter Corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello feels that Nerazzurri President Steven Zhang gives the club a different strategic vision.
Speaking at the ‘Il Foglio Sportivo Torna a San Siro’ event, via FCInter1908, Antonello gave his thoughts on Zhang and other subjects pertinent to the club.
During Zhang’s time as Inter President, the Nerazzurri’s strategy has changed in a number of respects.
Whilst the financial side of things, conditioned by post-pandemic financial restrictions as a result of Suning’s ownership, has been the subject of most of the focus, there have been other themes of Zhang’s tenure.
As Inter Corporate CEO Antonello points out, the shift to more digital and globally-minded initiatives has been key to the club’s direction with Zhang.
Alessandro Antonello Praises Steven Zhang’s Maturoty
“He’s the youngest president in the club’s history, he’s very dedicated to his work,” Antonello said of the current Inter President.
“Today he’s a mature President who helps us run the club, he’s given us new directions to run the club.”
“He helps us think outside the conventional boxes, I can only give thanks to him,” the Corporate CEO added.
“I want to highlight the journey that these owners taken us on, over the past seven years they’ve found continuity in the work they’ve done,” he added.
“Over seven years we’ve reached a Europa League final, won the Scudetto, the Supercoppa twice, and the Coppa Italia,” he noted.
“The work done, on and off the pitch, has brought Inter back to the level of the top European clubs.”
Antonello Addresses DigitalBits Situation
The Inter Corporate CEO also weighed in on the situation with DigitalBits, who have been removed as the team’s main shirt sponsor.
“The sponsor’s situation is one that everyone knows about, we’ve been talking about it since last summer,” he said.
“Unfortunately the deal became insolvent, it’s a situation that we’ve had to deal with with a lot of regret.”
“We’re working to put new partner on the shirt,” he continued.
“It isn’t a helpful situation to find yourself without a shirt sponsor, although we’ve gotten a lot of feedback on the shirt looking vintage.”
“Still,” Antonello noted, “we’re working hard to find a new sponsor.”
Importance Of Free Transfers To Inter’s Financial Strategy
The Nerazzurri Corporate CEO then went on to discuss the fact that so many of the club’s most important signings have been free transfers.
When the importance of players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Francesco Acerbi, and Andre Onana was pointed out, Antonello outlined how the club approaches the transfer market.
“In the past few years we’ve been talking a lot about financial sustainability, an important element.”
“After the first post-pandemic season we’ve been reviewing financial results which project in the direction of financial sustainability,” he explained.
“There’s still a lot to do, and the sporting results are a big help.”
“For net season we have to qualify for the Champions League, that’s our first objective.”
“Marotta will work within certain parameters,” he continued.
“There won’t be any revolutions,” Antonello made clear.
“The season we’re in the middle of has been a massive one,” Antonello said, “the only regret is that we were out of the title race early, but it’s been a great season.”
