Defender Alessandro Bastoni isn’t taking anything for granted after Inter Milan’s 2-0 Champions League win over AC Milan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the derby win, via FCInterNews, the 23-year-old stressed that it’s far from over in the two-legged Champions League semifinal tie.

There is a certain sense that Inter have put one foot in the Champions League final.

The 2-0 advantage over Milan is hardly unassailable, but it is a big cushion for the second leg.

However, the Milan derby is a fixture that’s famous, if not notorious, for its unpredictably and drama.

The form book tends to be ripped up when the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri meet, regardless of the competition.

Moreover, the individual quality of Milan and the team’s organization and physicality under Stefano Pioli are both factors that could shift the balance in an instant.

Accordingly, the Nerazzurri will know exactly what awaits them in the ninety minutes to come next week.

For his part, Italian international defender Bastoni feels that things are only at halftime.

The wait will be several more days still, but the Nerazzurri must approach the second leg like a second half.

Alessandro Bastoni Feels Inter Milan Must Stay Cautious & See Out The Tie

“It’s only the first half of a match that ends on Tuesday,” Bastoni said, cooling emotions after yesterday’s win.

“We have to stay calm and concentrate on preparing for next week,” he continued.

And of yesterday’s win, Bastoni stressed the fact that Inter are quite familiar with derby matches.

“We played exactly the way that we prepared to,” he said of the Nerazzurri’s organized display to see off their city rivals.

“We’ve faced them several times this season so we know them very well.”

Inter have now beaten Milan three times this season, whilst the Rossoneri won the first league derby in a 3-2 thriller.
