Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been named as Inter’s standout performers in a 2-0 win over AC Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, hailed the pair along with Nicolo Barella as the best players on the pitch.

Inter got off to a very fast start in yesterday evening’s Champions League derby.

Two goals within the first eleven minutes gave the Nerazzurri a major foothold in the semifinal tie.

By a quirk of fate, both goals came from players who joined from Roma in the past couple years. Ex-Manchester City striker Dzeko joined in the summer of 2021, after spending six seasons with the Giallorossi.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal and Manchester United man Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined on a free transfer last summer.

Both showed why they were signed with well-taken goals on the biggest stage.

Dzeko’s goal was a brilliant volley from a Hakan Calhanoglu corner. Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan did well to finish off a precision counterattack.

For the Gazzetta, both of the pair’s displays were worthy of a 7.5/10 score in the player ratings for the match.

Nicolo Barella’s all-action display also highlighted

The former Roma duo were not the only Inter players who the Gazzetta praised, however.

Midfielder Nicolo Barella also received a 7.5/10 grade from the newspaper, who didn’t hive a higher score to anyone else.

The former Cagliari man did not score or assist a goal, but did just about everything else.

In the first half, Inter got the better of the midfield battle, and Barella was the glue in a trio with Mkhitaryan and Calhanoglu.

The Gazzetta also doled out praise to a few other Inter players for their performances in the derby victory.

The newspaper gave all of Matteo Darmian, Francesco Acerbi, Alessandro Bastoni, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Lautaro Martinez 7/10 scores.

Meanwhile the Gazzetta criticized substitute Roberto Gagliardini with a mediocre 5.5/10 grade.
