Inter striker Edin Dzeko isn’t getting ahead of himself at the prospect of facing his old side Manchester City next month.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after yesterday’s 2-0 semifinal first leg win over AC Milan, via FCInterNews, the Bosnian stressed that the job’s not done as far as reaching the final.

Inter took a big step in the direction of European club football’s biggest match yesterday.

The Nerazzurri dispatched city rivals AC Milan 2-0 in a much-hyped derby clash, giving themselves a solid advantage to take into the second leg.

Former Roma striker Dzeko opened the scoring with a brilliant volley.

In the other semifinal first leg, the 37-year-old’s former side Man City played out a frenetic 1-1 draw away to Real Madrid.

When the dust settled, Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens still have a lot of work to do if they’re to reach the final ahead of the competition’s reigning champions.

If they do, however, Dzeko could find himself in the middle of a clash between his own past and present.

For his part, however, the former City and Giallorossi striker doesn’t want to get carried away with this kind of talk when there’s still ninety minutes to go in a derby that’s never predictable.

Edin Dzeko reacts to possibility that Man City are on the horizon for Inter

Dzeko won the Premier League title twice with the Cityzens, in 2012 and 2014.

Asked what facing them would mean, Inter’s man of the match Edin Dzeko admitted “I’d love to.”

“I hope we do, but let’s say I’m not thinking that far ahead because there’s still one more semifinal match to go.”

Dzeko had reached the semifinal of the competition with Roma in 2018.

He noted that “The last time I’ve been here I lost so I have a bad memory of it, even though I scored in both legs.”

“You don’t play a Champions League semifinal every season, especially in a derby,” the 37-year-old went on.

Of his team’s performance Dzeko said that “We were very aggressive from the start.”

“We tried to impose our game and we were lucky enough to score two goals in the first eleven minutes.”

“Then we were unlucky that we weren’t able to find a third that would have been a big help to us, but we’re satisfied with the 2-0 win.”
