Legendary former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso feels the Nerazzurri didn’t fail to kill off AC Milan in the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after Inter’s 2-0 Champions League win, via FCInter1908, the Treble winner cautioned against viewing the match as one in which the Nerazzurri had failed to get more goals.

Inter’s 2-0 advantage over city rivals AC Milan is certainly a significant one to take into the second leg.

However, it is not unassailable, as a more emphatic scoreline perhaps would have been.

After scoring twice in little over ten minutes, Inter could not find the back of the net again in the semifinal first leg.

This did not necessarily come about due to a lack of chances to do so.

However, the match remained 2-0 until the final whistle, and this will be the aggregate scoreline at the start of the second leg.

This is a scoreline that leaves Milan with plenty of hope for a comeback.

Conversely, Inter could well see it as a regret that they were not able to build up a bigger lead heading into the second leg.

However, from the perspective of former midfielder Cambiasso, this is not the right way of looking at things.

The Argentine feels that it was an entirely positive performance and result for the Nerazzurri.

Esteban Cambiasso Feels Inter Milan Have No Reason For Regret

Cambiasso argued that “It wouldn’t be right to feel regret after winning the match 2-0.”

“I didn’t expect a derby match like that,” he continued. “It was similar to the Supercoppa match.”

“Milan didn’t get into the match, Inter could’ve gotten a third but then Milan had a bit of a reaction so Inter can be more than happy with the result.”

Cambiasso also spoke about the performance of striker Edin Dzeko, stating that “He’s a player who often goes unnoticed, but when he touches the ball he always seems to have the right idea.”

“In terms of how Inzaghi wants the team to play, Dzeko was the right choice,” the Argentine said of the Bosnian starting the match.
