Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko insists that his contribution to the team’s cause goes beyond scoring goals.

The Bosnian veteran was on target yet again, breaking the deadlock in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal against AC Milan as early as the eighth minute.

His teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan doubled Inter’s lead three minutes later. Simone Inzaghi’s men then managed to maintain their two-goal cushion until the final whistle. They now head to the decisive second leg with a comprehensive advantage.

For his part, Dzeko argues he’s still in great physical condition despite his advanced age, and that squad rotation is helping him recharge the batteries.

“I’m 37, but I still feel good. That’s important. I felt fresher, maybe because I rested three days ago,” said the Bosnian bomber in his post-match interview with Prime Video via FcInterNews.

“I scored the first goal but the whole team was excited. It doesn’t often happen that we play a derby in the Champions League semifinal. We were all focused from the first minute to the last and it paid off.”

The former Roma and Man City striker explains how his role in Inzaghi’s team isn’t exclusively netting goals.

“Those who know me will tell you that I give so much more, it’s not just scoring goals. I’m happy even when I don’t score, I work for the team and it shows on the pitch.”

The experienced forward is currently running on an expiring contract, but when asked about a potential renewal, he threw the ball in the management’s court.

“I don’t know, you have to ask the club.”
