Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi emphasized that the Nerazzurri are only one step away from make the UEFA Champions League Final, an objective that believed in since the start of the season.

Simone Inzaghi spoke to reporters at the post-match press conference following the Inter Milan‘s 2-0 win against local rivals A.C. Milan in the UEFA Champions League Semi Final first leg, as reported by FCInterNews.

The former Lazio manager praised how his players approached the game and coped when the Rossoneri grew into the match in the second half.

“The first half was extraordinary. The players were great in how they approached the game and we covered a lot of ground in the second half, expect for Tonali’s post.

“The changes were a great help and De Vrij was an example tonight and in Rome, as he barely made a mistake. There is much satisfaction tonight and we are one step away from a dream that we believed in since August,” said the Inter manager.

Inzaghi praised Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for this performance and that he is already preparing for the return leg.

“They played a great game. I spoke with the substitutes because I know how hard it is to come on with the game ongoing. I had other players who wanted to come on and maybe they are not happy, but that is the right spirit.

“The players know what we did against Benfica and we do not have to think about managing the game. Only the final step is missing,” continued Inzaghi.

Simone Inzaghi Brands Robin Gosens ‘A Warrior’

The Inter manager gave an update on German wingback Robin Gosens, and how he will decide how to handle his return to the lineup.

“Gosens is a warrior. I will evaluate him in the coming days. It was significant injury and I will decide before the game against Sassuolo,” said the former Lazio player.

Inzaghi wrapped up the press conference by discussing what he said to his players and described the mood during the final training session before the game.

“We were together from dinner time to midnight and we sought to prepare as best as possible. In the last two days, I saw that the players were very relaxed, which can give off mixed signals,” concluded the Inter manager.
