Inter President Steven Zhang has sent a clear message to the squad after they beat AC Milan 2-0 in the Champions League semifinal first leg.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri President personally spoke to the team in the locker room after the match.
Inter have certainly taken a big step towards the Champions League final.
Two goals and a clean sheet have given the Nerazzurri a sizable advantage to take into the second leg against their city rivals.
However, the Milan derby is always a fixture in which anything can happen.
This was the key theme that Inter President Zhang tried to make sure the players understood after the match.
Steven Zhang celebratory but cautious after Inter’s derby triumph
The Gazzetta report that Zhang wanted to personally congratulate the squad after the final whistle at the San Siro.
The President made his way to the locker room to speak to the players and give his thoughts.
According to the newspaper, the Nerazzurri President was celebratory, but didn’t want anyone getting ahead of themselves.
Zhang told the players that the key thing is to keep their heads on the ground despite the positive mood generated by the win.
First of all, the Gazzetta report, the President made sure the focus is squarely on Sassuolo this weekend.
The Nerazzurri must immediately return to league action, and face a tough Neroverdi side at the San Siro.
Given Inter are locked in a tough battle for a spot in the top four of the Serie A table, three points will be vital.
Moreover, even with a two-goal advantage, the job is hardly done against the Rossoneri.
Next Tuesday, Inter will play the second leg, and they will have to be at least at the same level as yesterday to reach the final.
This was the key theme of Zhang’s speech to the players.
