Legendary former Inter captain Beppe Bergomi is confident of the Nerazzurri’s chances in a Champions League final.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former defender emphasized this Inter team’s qualities in big one-off matches.
Inter are still not in the Champions League final.
A 2-0 win over AC Milan in the semifinal first leg gives the team a real advantage to protect and build on in the second leg though.
Accordingly, the Nerazzurri could already be dreaming of a spot in the final.
Should Inter reach European club football’s biggest match, they’ll face one of Manchester City or Real Madrid.
The English and Spanish giants played out a frenetic 1-1 draw last week.
That match was a testament to the enormous quality that both Pep Guardiola’s and Carlo Ancelotti’s teams possess.
As such, Inter will know that a final against either City or Real would be a truly massive challenge.
In truth, the Nerazzurri would be considered rank underdogs no matter who they could face in the final.
Beppe Bergomi Confident Of Inter’s Chances In Champions League Final
Former Nerazzurri defender Bergomi is still confident, however.
For Bergomi, the quality that this Inter have already shown in the biggest one-off matches is something that can’t be overlooked.
“Should they reach the final in Istanbul, Inter aren’t just going to go there to be the sacrificial lambs,” the former defender argued.
“This team don’t fear anyone in a one-off match,” he said.
Of the team’s run-in, Bergomi said that “Inzaghi has done well making some risky decisions.”
“He’s made six or seven changes from one match to the next, and managed all the team’s commitments brilliantly.”
Bergomi argued that “The turning point of the season came when everyone got involved in the squad rotation.”
“Having gotten vital players like Lukaku and Brozovic back fit has given the team extra resources from the bench, and allowed some of the players who’ve been stretched thin dragging the team all season to have a breather,” he added.
