The amount of prize money Inter Milan could earn from the Champions League could soar well beyond €100 million if they were to reach the final of the competition.
This is highlighted by Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who detail how much the final would be worth to the Nerazzurri.
To date, Inter have earned nearly €85 million from the Champions League in terms of prize money.
This comes from the Nerazzurri’s run to the penultimate stage of the competition.
These earnings come from a combination of the prize money from participation up to the semifinals, and the market pool.
Inter Milan Already Have Unexpected Champions League Windfall
Inter hardly took reaching the Champions League knockout rounds for granted this season.
This was made all the more the case when the Nerazzurri were drawn into a group with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
However, the team have not only reached the knockouts, but made major inroads.
The earnings from participation in the group stage and then the round of sixteen, quarterfinals, and semifinals have been a major financial boost.
Moreover, whilst the exact amount of the market pool in the Champions League allocated to Serie A teams is yet to be determined, it provides an additional influx due to the progress of the Nerazzurri as well as Milan and Napoli in the competition.
Nerazzurri’s Earnings Could Hit Triple Digits
Inter have one foot in the Champions League final after their 2-0 semifinal first leg win over AC Milan.
The job is far from done, but the Nerazzurri haven’t been this close to European club football’s biggest match in well over a decade.
If Inter are to get that far, their earnings will go well over €100 million, when accounting for the final amount brought in from the market pool.
Given the Nerazzurri’s financial issues, this would be a real breath of fresh air.
Additionally, if Inter were to actually win the Champions League, there would be a further cherry on top.
Whilst the team will hardly be focusing on the financial side of such an improbable triumph, it would help the team.
The total prize money would be €8.3 million, between €4.5 million for winning the competition and earnings from next season’s European Super Cup.
