Inter could find that they are less affected by the loss of Milan Skriniar than expected.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who argue that some canny free transfers and an unexpected run in the Champions League could make up for the Slovakian’s looming departure.

Skriniar has become something of a forgotten man at Inter.

Whilst the team have been clawing back their top four spot in the league and reaching the Champions League semifinals, the former Sampdoria man has been on the shelf.

The defender underwent surgery last month, to rectify a back injury.

The back problem has been affecting the 28-year-old since the end of February.

Milan Skriniar May Never Play For Inter Milan Again

With Skriniar now recovering from his surgery, it looks as though the Slovakian will be out for the rest of the season.

Whilst there would be some hope of the defender being fit if Inter reach the Champions League final, he will not appear before then.

Given that Skriniar is set to leave for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, he may already have made his last appearance for Inter.

The loss of Skriniar has been expected to be a big financial blow to Inter.

The Nerazzurri had the chance to sell the ex-Sampdoria defender to PSG for a big fee last summer.

However, Inter were not happy with any of the Parisians’ offers.

Given that the 28-year-old will now leave for nothing, the situation looks to have been badly mishandled.

However, the Nerazzurri are making up the balance in other ways.

As the Corriere della Sera notes, there are many players in Inter’s first-choice eleven who arrived for free transfers themselves.

Among these are midfielders Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and goalkeeper Andre Onana.

These have been some of the players who have powered Inter to a Champions League semifinal, and maybe beyond.

Given the earnings from the competition, the blow of losing Skriniar for free no longer hits Inter so hard.
