Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku wants to be in the starting eleven for the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 30-year-old Belgian international could also push to start in the Champions League final.

In recent weeks, there has been a clear policy of rotation in attack at Inter.

During the week, it has been Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko who start. The duo have established themselves as the main pair in cup competitions. Then, in league matches it’s been Lukaku and Joaquin Correa.

The Belgian started in the Serie A against Empoli, Lazio, and Roma, scoring and assisting in all of those three matches. He is expected to start against Sassuolo this evening.

Beyond the rotation of the starting eleven, those strikers who don’t start always get opportunities from the bench. According to the report, Lukaku is accepting of the policy of rotation.

However, the striker is hopeful that he can overturn things a bit. Lukaku wants to convince Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi to hand him a start against Fiorentina later this month.

Romelu Lukaku Eyeing Start In Coppa Italia Final

Lukaku has not had the kind of season he’ll have wanted or expected, to say the least.

However, the Belgian is now finally fully fit and has made a real impact in recent weeks, as demonstrated in the striker’s Serie A matches as of late.

Moreover, Lukaku also made a massive impact off the bench against Porto in the Champions League. The 30-year-old wants to make the most of this new wave of momentum.

The Corriere reports that Lukaku will do everything to earn a place in the starting eleven against Fiorentina. Inter will face La Viola to try and defend their Coppa Italia crown from last season.

Chelsea-Owned Striker Also Looking At Champions League Final

The Coppa Italia final may not be the only big final that Lukaku will want to start in. The Chelsea-owned star will also have one eye on the Champions League final.

That match could well be Lukaku’s last before he returns to Chelsea. However, the Belgian wants to make it count.

The Nerazzurri haven’t booked their place European club football’s biggest match yet. If Inter can see out their 2-0 advantage over AC Milan from the first leg of their semifinal tie, they will be in Istanbul next month.

If Inter do face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final, Lukaku is hopeful that he can be in the starting lineup.
