Only Signatures Remain Before Ex-AC Milan Midfielder Pens Inter Milan Contract Extension

Turkish international midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is on the verge of signing a contract with Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, as reported via Milan based Inter Milan news-site FCInterNews.

According to the report, only the signatures on the contract remain before the 29-year-old Turkish international extends his deal. The official announcement should come at the end of this season, the report adds.

As things stand, Calhanoglu’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2024.

The former Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg midfielder joined on a free transfer from AC Milan in the summer of 2021. At that time, the Turk signed a three-year deal with the Nerazzurri.

However, as with his teammate Alessandro Bastoni, Inter consider it a priority to secure Calhanoglu’s future well before then.

The ex-Rossoneri midfielder has emerged as a vital player for the Nerazzurri over the past couple of seasons.

Calhanoglu arrived as a replacement for Christian Eriksen due to medical regulations related to the aftermath of his medical emergency. Initially, the Turk played as a box-to-box midfielder.

However, Calhanoglu’s usage has changed over his time at Inter.

Having already made the move into central midfield from an attacking midfield or wide role at Milan, the 29-year-old has been moved even further back.

This season, Calhanoglu has played as a deep-lying playmaker by Nerazzzurri coach Simone Inzaghi.

Initially this was a makeshift solution. First-choice regista Marcelo Brozovic had picked up a long-term muscle injury in September. Inzaghi decided that he could rely on Calhanoglu in the role.

However, the former Rossoneri man’s displays have been so accomplished that he’s virtually become first-choice in the role.

Hakan Calhanoglu To Pen Three-Year Inter Contract Extension

According to the Corriere, there is total agreement between Inter and Calhanoglu regarding the duration and wages of a new deal.

The 29-year-old will sign a new three-year deal. This would keep him at Inter until the end of June 2026.

Calhanoglu will earn €6 million net per season plus add-ons on his new deal.

The Corriere reports that everything is all set for the midfielder to put pen to paper. At the end of the season, there should be an official announcement.
