Beppe Marotta feels that even though AC Milan are heavily motivated, Inter Milan can do something extraordinary this evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri CEO gave his thoughts ahead of the Champions League semifinal second leg.

Inter know that they’re ninety minutes plus stoppage time away from a place in the Champions League final.

Still, it will be a frenetic match that takes everything out of the players, no doubt. The Rossoneri have a 2-0 deficit to claw back, but this only means that they’ll throw the kitchen sink at Inter.

The Nerazzurri will thus have to try and take control and subdue their city rivals.

Inter have already put in an at-times dominant performance in the first leg of this semifinal tie. Moreover, the Nerazzurri had also won the previous two derbies played against their city rivals.

Beppe Marotta: Inter Milan Can Do Something Extraordinary Vs AC Milan

Marotta said of being in the semifinal that “Being here brings satisfaction to the whole Inter world. It’s an important moment for Italian football, we needed it.”

Asked whether he thinks that victory here could “erase” losing the Serie A title to Milan last season, Marotta said that “It’s useless to go back to the past.”

“We are focused on the present, which has been incredible.”

“This is an unforgettable chapter for us, we’re here to take control and dream something extraordinary,” the Inter CEO added.

Asked what will be needed in terms of approach from Inter, Marotta replied that “Tactical prejudgments are of little use.”

“We need to have concentration, determination, intelligence,” he continued.

“We’re up against an opponent who’re fired up,” Marotta noted. “So we have to know the right way to approach them.”

Of the work done by Simone Inzaghi as coach, Marotta noted that “This is an atypical season.”

“In the middle of it, it was broken up by the interruption of the World Cup, which many of our players wanted to participate in,” he observed.

“That served as a lesson for us, how to adapt to these situations should they happen again.”

“Today we’re in good condition physically and technically, so we’re optimistic,” Marotta added.

And of what Inter need to do in the first half-hour of the match, the CEO said that “I don’t want to go into too much. But to me, the team looked focused.”

“Considerations of how to approach the match will have been made by the coach,” he concluded.
