Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be fit for the Champions League final against Man City.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 34-year-old’s availability for the final next month in Istanbul will depend how his injury responds to treatment.

Inter have confirmed that Mkhitaryan picked up an injury during Tuesday’s Champions League win over AC Milan. It was the one blemish on the Nerazzurri’s progression to the final against their city rivals.

Medical tests with the club’s doctors showed that the Armenian former Roma and Arsenal man had strained the rectus femoris muscle in his left thigh.

Now, it could be something of a race against time to get Mkhitaryan fit again in time for June 10.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan Injury Status: Could Be Fit To Face Man City

As the Gazzetta notes, the fact that there are still more than three weeks to go before the final plays in Inter and Mkhitaryan’s favour.

The Armenian will have that time to recover. Even if Mkhitaryan doesn’t manage to play again in Serie A or the Coppa Italia this season, there’s still a ways to go before the final.

Accordingly, if the midfielder’s injury isn’t too serious, he should be fit. For a muscle injury like Mkhitaryan’s the recovery timeline is rarely more than two or three weeks.

However, the Gazzetta notes, the muscle affected could be a problem. The rectus femoris muscle is heavily used in kicking motions. As such, it is obviously heavily used during a match.

Accordingly, stress on the muscle is something to be watched out for. This will be factored into assessments of Mkhitaryan’s readiness to face City next month.

As such, the Gazzetta reports, Mkhitaryan’s condition will be clearer after his recovery treatment really begins. If the affected muscle starts responding well to treatment, he should be ready for the clash with City.
