Former Nerazzurri defender Daniele Adani feels that while Man City are hugely formidable opposition, Inter Milan can emulate Cityzens coach Pep Guardiola and have a chance against them.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, Adani gave his predictions for the Champions League final.
Inter now know who they’ll be facing in the Champions League final.
Moreover, after Manchester City tore Real Madrid apart 4-0 in the semifinal second leg, they’ll know how difficult it will be.
City’s quality and style of play can make them seem virtually unplayable. However, for his part former Nerazzurri defender Adani feels that his old side have more than a chance.
Man City Imperious But Inter Have Elements Of Guardiola To Them
Asked if Inter should be worried, Adani said “They have every reason to.”
“Inzaghi’s team will be ready for what awaits them and are in the best period in their seeason,” he went on, “thanks in part to the suffering of the last few months.”
“And then against the big names in Europe, they’ve already shown that they know how to play great matches,” he continued.
“When Inter play at their best, in terms of workrate, form, and focus, they can hurt anyone.”
“I don’t think Inter can change their style of play too much,” Adani argued. “It’s clear that possession will understandably be more the prerogative of Guardiola’s team. They don’t allow you much.”
“But in 2023 you can’t just try to allow your opponent the ball and that be enough,” he went on.
“You need to be able, when you do have the ball, to play with quality.”
“And Inter are good at doing that,” Adani continued. “In terms of their ability to build out from the back, play through the the lines, interchange positions, and get men free, I’d go as far as to say they can be ‘Guardiola-esque.'”
Asked if he thinks the pressure of fighting to win the Champions League will get to Pep Guardiola and Man City, Adani responded that “I think Guardiola knows he has already done the trickiest thing. That’s winning the Premier League five times in seven years.”
“That’s an incredible feat, and it goes beyond winning the Champions League,” he argued.
