Inter Milan will overtake Juventus in the UEFA rankings next season after reaching the Champions League final this time around.

This is confirmed after the Bianconeri exited the Europa League at the semifinal stage yesterday evening, according to FCInterNews.

Inter and Juventus have had contrasting fortunes in Europe this season.

For the Nerazzurri, it has been a season of triumph up to this point. Whilst Inter will have a mountain to climb against Manchester City in the Champions League final, even making it this far is a huge and unexpected achievement to begin with.

For the Bianconeri, in contrast, there have been setbacks and disappointments in European knockout competition.

Being dumped out of their Champions League group by Benfica will certainly not have been what Max Allegri’s team expected.

The Bianconeri looked to still have a shot at European silverware in the continent’s secondary competition.

Allegri took Juventus on an impressive run to the semifinal stage of the Europa League. However, the Turin giants were eliminated by Sevilla in the second leg of their tie yesterday.

Inter Milan Set To Move Ahead Of Juventus In UEFA Rankings

For both teams, these contrasting fortunes have obvious sporting ramifications.

For Inter, there is the prestige of playing in European club football’s biggest match. For Juventus, by contrast, there will be no small regret at failing to reach a final as not only the Nerazzurri but also Roma and Fiorentina have done this season.

However, as FCIN highlight, there is another side to the two Italian giants’ respective European performances.

Inter’s run to the Champions League final has had a massive impact on their UEFA rankings. Meanwhile, while the Bianconeri’s European season has been far from terrible, they have not racked up points in the ranking system the way that their Derby d’Italia rivals have done.

Accordingly, next season, when the results from the 2018-19 season stop being taken into consideration, Inter will officially move ahead of Juventus in the UEFA rankings on a four-year basis.
