Inter Milan’s approach in yesterday evening’s Serie A match against Napoli could be a hint at the tactics that they will use in the Champions League final against Man City next month.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the Nerazzurri’s counterattacking approach at the Maradona could also be the one that they plan to employ against the Citizens in three weeks’ time.

Yesterday evening, Inter’s gameplan looked very clear.

From the first whistle, the Nerazzurri held a fairly deep defensive line.

Inter looked to play an organized and defensive block to contain Napoli’s fluid possession play. Then, when the Nerazzurri gained possession of the ball, they looked to use pace and physicality to attack quickly.

Inter Hint At Man City Gameplan With Tactics Vs Napoli.

In the view of the Corriere, this may be partly in preparation for the Champions League final against Manchester City.

The Cityzens are an immensely formidable team in possession. Pep Guardiola’s men have proven unplayable at times due to the fluency of their passing and the intensity with which they look to win the ball back high up the pitch.

Accordingly, Inter will have to find a way to counter this style of play from City.

It has been suggested that Inter could look to emulate the tactics that have worked for former coach Antonio Conte against City.

For the Corriere, yesterday’s match against Napoli was a dress rehearsal for the City match.

Whilst Inter lost, partly due to Roberto Gagliardini‘s sending-off, there were positive flashes from them.

The pace of Romelu Lukaku, Robin Gosens, and Raoul Bellanova caused the Partenopei problems at times. Moreover, for all Napoli’s possession, Inter prevented them from getting many clear scoring chances.

Playing this way against City will not be easy, to put it mildly. However, if the Nerazzurri keep their defensive shape and utilize their pace on the counter, it could prove an effective weapon against the English champions.
