Inter Milan may be at risk of putting too much emphasis on the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina and the Champions League final against Man City in the next few weeks.

This is the suggestion in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper react to the Nerazzurri’s Serie A loss to Napoli and argue that there’s a real risk of Inter losing focus in the league.

Inter seemed oddly unbothered by yesterday’s defeat away to Napoli.

Coach Simone Inzaghi took the stance that it was a disappointment, but not the end of the world.

The coach’s decision to send out a heavily-rotated squad certainly indicated that he was not treating it as a must-win clash.

Inter Risk Losing Steam In Serie A With Fiorentina & Man City Clashes Looming

For the Corriere, this is not an approach without its risks. Far from it, in fact.

The newspaper warns that the Nerazzurri could be sleepwalking out of the top four in Serie A if they keep going like this.

It is true, sure, that the finals against Fiorentina and Manchester City are hugely important matches.

Inzaghi has every reason to want to keep his squad fresh for those matches.

However, Inter’s advantage over AC Milan in fifth place has been reduced to just two points.

Now, Inter have used up their margin of error. Upcoming matches against Atalanta and Torino are now all but must-win.

Inzaghi and the Nerazzurri cannot put all their eggs in the baskets of Rome or Istanbul.

The Corriere suggest that, for Inter, it didn’t have to be this way. If the team had taken a more committed approach yesterday at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona they may well have secured at least a point.

A result in Naples would have given Inter more of a buffer. However, now the Nerazzurri must treat each of their last four matches like a final.
