Inter Milan captain Samir Handanovic is ready for one “last dance” against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia final tomorrow.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who highlight the importance of what could be the 38-year-old’s final match as a starter for the Nerazzurri.

Handanovic has now been at Inter for eleven years.

The Slovenian joined from Udinese in the summer of 2012.

Handanovic had already established a strong reputation for himself with the Friulani, but at Inter he’s really come into his own. For periods during the past decade, Handanovic has been widely regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

There is little doubt, however, that Handanovic’s career is getting closer and closer to its end.

The Slovenian is now 38 years of age. Moreover, the Nerazzurri have finally found a long-term successor to their captain in goal.

Andre Onana has shone this season, proving capable of being the regular starter.

Inter Captain Samir Handanovic To Be Given Start Vs Fiorentina

Since October, the Cameroonian has been the clear first-choice starter in goal for Inter.

This does not mean, however, that Handanovic has not been given his opportunities.

The Slovenian has started recent league outings against the likes of Sassuolo and Empoli, among others.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi still trusts his captain.

Handanovic is reportedly set to start against Fiorentina tomorrow at the Stadio Olimpico.

This would come as a reward for the captain’s years of service to Inter, and for his continued importance behind the scenes. Handanovic has been a key factor in Onana settling in and shining in his first season in Serie A.

A start tomorrow would represent an opportunity for Handanovic to go out on a high note.

The 38-year-old is still trusted to start in a match with silverware on the line. He, and Inter, will be hoping that it can be a memorable “last dance.”
