Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has a chance to solidify his reputation as “king of cup competitions” against Fiorentina tonight.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the 47-year-old could make it seven cup final wins in just eight finals played at senior level if the Nerazzurri win the Coppa Italia final this evening.

So far, Inzaghi’s record in cup finals with Inter is perfect.

The coach has been at the helm for two Supercoppa Italiana matches, and has won both. Inter beat Juventus and AC Milan for those titles.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri are defending their Coppa Italia crown from last season at the Stadio Olimpico this evening.

Last season, it was Juventus who Inter beat to win the competition. The Nerazzurri needed extra time to prevail in a 4-2 thriller over the Bianconeri.

Inter Coach Inzaghi Can Make It Seven Cup Final Wins Vs Fiorentina

Now, Inzaghi has the chance to make it two for two in both the Supercoppa and in the Coppa Italia.

Moreover, the coach’s record at Lazio is not much worse.

With the Biancocelesti, Inzaghi also played in two Supercoppa matches, and also won both of them.

The only blemish on the 47-year-old’s record in senior cup finals came in the very first one played with Lazio. The capital club reached the Coppa Italia final in 2017, but lost to Juventus.

However, the Biancocelesti avenged that loss by beating the Bianconeri in the 2019 edition of the final.

Inzaghi’s record has not always been perfect in the league. This has been the case at both Lazio and Inter.

However, when the 47-year-old needs to get it right in a one-off match for silverware, he always seems to come up with the good.

Inter will be hoping that Inzaghi can do so yet again at the Olimpico. And then, maybe even dream of something special against Manchester City in Istanbul.
