Inter Milan wingback Matteo Darmian feels that the Nerazzurri must go out with complete focus if they’re to beat Fiorentina in this evening’s Coppa Italia final clash.

Speaking to InterTV ahead of the match, via FCInterNews, the 33-year-old gave his thoughts ahead of the match.

Inter are now only a matter of minutes away from playing for a chance to defend last season’s Coppa Italia crown.

Standing in their way, however, are a Fiorentina team who beat them in the league last month.

That match showed how much quality this Viola team can boast. It also demonstrated just also what can happen when the Nerazzurri allow their level to drop.

If Inter can show the kind of form that has taken them into the Champions League final, they have every chance of asserting themselves and successfully defending last season’s Coppa Italia crown.

However, a subpar display would certainly be punished. Vincenzo Italiano’s men are in a European final of their own, and have shown themselves to be adept particularly in these big matches.

As such, Inter have to treat this evening’s match at the Stadio Olimpico with the importance that it deserves.

Matteo Darmian: Inter Must Treat Fiorentina As A Proper Final

The Nerazzurri cannot treat facing Fiorentina as being somehow less important or challenging than any other match. Doing so would be a big risk.

On the other hand, if Inter show their opposition the requisite respect, they can continue to build momentum.

Inter still have top four in Serie A to fight for. Then, there is next month’s Champions League final.

Darmian gave his thoughts on what the team will have to do to win.

“This is an important match, and we’re prepared for it,” the 33-year-old said.

“We already have done so in other finals,” he added. “We’ll need the right focus, and immense teamwork to bring home the win.”

Then, speaking to SportMediaset, Darmian said that “It’s always important to go deep in every competition, and here we are.”

“We’re up against a great team, but we want to get a positive result.”

“We have massive motivation, winning a trophy is always a great feeling and a big accomplishment,” he added.

As to whether the team could be preoccupied by the Champions League final, Darmian replied “No. Our heads are focused entirely on tonight, and we have to prove it on the pitch.”

“It will be a battle against a great opponent, but we want to play our game and win.”
