Hakan Calhanoglu admits that the love that he receives from Inter Milan fans is hard to put into words.
Speaking to InterTV after winning the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina this evening, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old gave his thoughts about what the support from the Nerazzurri faithful means to him.
Calhanoglu is not the first player to have made the move across the Milan derby divide.
However, the Turkish international has certainly done so in eye-catching fashion. Despite having been at Inter for just two seasons so far following a four-year stint with the Rossoneri, Calhanoglu has really planted his flag on the Nerazzurri side of the city rivalry.
Last season, Calhanoglu was bitterly disappointed to see his former side win the Serie A title ahead of Inter. The Rossoneri pipped them to the Scudetto on the final day of the season.
However, Calhanoglu got some measure of revenge this time around.
The Nerazzurri have won four out of five Milan derbies played this season. Two of these wins came in the semifinals of the Champions League, booking their place in the final against Manchester City next month.
In the meantime, Inter have added another piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet. Calhanoglu has now won both the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia on two occasions each with Inter.
Hakan Calhanoglu: The Love From Inter Milan Fans Is Special
“From day one they’ve always supported me,” Calhanoglu said of his relationship with the Inter fans. “Even though I’d come over here from the other side.”
“I can’t explain this love,” he continued. “I can only experience it.”
“Feeling this love is unlike anything else,” the 29-year-old added.
Of the significance of winning the Coppa Italia again, Calhanoglu said that “We have another trophy. It’s important for our progress.”
“Today we faced some difficulties against a good Fiorentina side,” he continued. “But we made it 2-1, we won and in the end it counts for more.”
“Now, on Saturday, another important match awaits us on our journey,” Calhanoglu added.
“Today we’ll enjoy ourselves, and then we turn our focus to Atalanta.”
