Inter Milan are keen to sign young RB Leipzig forward Oliver Schmidhauser on a free transfer this summer.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who confirm the SempreInter exclusive that the Nerazzurri are keen on signing the 18-year-old, noting that they are ready to bring him in on a two-year deal.

Last month, SempreInter exclusively reported that Schmidhauser is close to leaving Leipzig and joining Inter.

The teenager is seen as a high-level prospect, and the Nerazzurri have pursued him as a talent for the future. Schmidhauser, who is also eligible for the Dominican Republic international team, is currently playing at the Under-20 World Cup with the North Americans.

However, it was not initially confirmed that the 18-year-old will make the move. For the time being, Schmidhauser remains under contract with Leipzig, having joined the Bundesliga side from Greuther Furth.

Schmidhauser’s contract with Leipzig runs out at the end of next month, though. Therefore, the Swiss will be able to leave at the end of his deal and be free to join another club on a free transfer.

SempreInter anticipated that Inter would be that club. CM now also report that the Nerazzurri are ready to offer Schmidhauser a two-year deal.

As CM note, Swiss youth international Schmidhauser himself has already admitted that he could join Inter.

The teenager made clear that he intends on leaving Leipzig when his current deal runs out.

Now, the question will be whether Inter get a deal over the line for Schmidhauser.

According to CM, the Nerazzurri are in fact very much prepared to do so. The outlet report that Inter will move once Schmidhauser’s contract with Leipzig runs out.

Schmidhauser is not expected to immediately become part of the Nerazzurri’s first team should he join this summer.

Rather, the Swiss youth international will initially play with the Primavera side.
