Inter Milan beat Atalanta 3-2 on Match Day 37 of 2022/2023 Serie A season at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, where Lautaro Martinez was the MOTM and an overall brilliant attacking display by the Nerazzurri, which is reflected in the SempreInter.com Inter Milan player ratings.

Ratings by Thomas Millar.

The Nerazzurri started the game brilliantly, showing straightaway that they wanted the three points. In fact, only 40 seconds after kick-off Lautaro Martinez released Romelu Lukaku to break the deadlock.

However, that was only just the beginning of Inter’s brilliant start. Only two minutes later Nicolo Barella doubled  lead with an emphatic finish following some wonderful buildup play by Lautaro Martinez.

With a two goal lead Inter subsequently continued to dominate and had a goal ruled out when Hakan Calhanoglu strayed offside.

However, instead of scoring the third Atalanta worked themselves back into the game. This because Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic pulled one goal back in the 36th minute.

This came after some poor defending by Danilo D’Ambrosio, who undoubtedly didn’t have a good opening 45 minutes at all.

Inter Milan’s MOTM Lautaro Martinez & Romelu Lukaku Deliver The Goods

In the second half, however, Inter controlled the game by lowering the tempo and maintaining possession. Moreover, plan was to patiently build up in attack and defend deep without possession.

Subsequently, the Nerazzurri succeeded this whilst creating a few dangerous chances. Therefore, it seemed only logical when Lautaro Martinez finished off a wonderful move to make it 3-1 in the 77th minute.

Momentarily after, Simone Inzaghi made four substitutions and therefore it wasn’t a surprise when Luis Muriel pulled one back.

However, the manner in which the Colombian scored had jaws dropping. In fact, it was arguably the best goal of the night as Muriel let off a thunderbolt which André Onana could do nothing about.

A Muriel wonder-goal notwithstanding, that was as close as Atalanta got as Inter took all three points on the night.

A win that consequently also means that Inter have secured a spot in the group stages of the Champions League next season.

Inter Milan Player Ratings Vs Atalanta – Lautaro Martinez MOTM

André Onana – 6,5: Was not to blame on the first goal, the second ‘own-goal’ is extremely unlucky. Made some incredible saves during the match.

Danilo D’Ambrosio (C) – 5: Got lost on Atalanta’s first goal and showed he was not up for it on a few other occasions in the first half. Had a better second half.

Francesco Acerbi – 6,5: Was a leader in the middle of the back three and did his job to shut down Hojlund, which he did with relatively no problems.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6,5: Class performance today as he was solid in defence and was able to burst ahead into attack. Sometimes communication wasn’t fully there.

Denzel Dumfries – 6: More active on defensive today as the majority of Inter’s attacks came through the left-hand side. Did his bit and made strong tackles.

Nicolo Barella – 7,5: Incredible goal following and an even more incredible build-up to it. His performances have been amazing throughout the conclusion to the season.

Marcelo Brozovic – 7,5: Inter’s motor and heart. Directed play in the heart of the midfield, playing several great through-balls. Unselfish play to deliver Inter’s final goal.

Hakan Calhaonglu – 7: Had an amazing strike ruled out for offside and would have put Inter up three within ten minutes of play. Has become a key player and a fan-favorite.

Federico Dimarco – 6,5: Had several close chances to score and put in many strong balls into the opposition box, setting up Inter’s second goal. Another good performance.

Lautaro Martinez (MOTM) – 8: Becoming world class. Physically unmatched and can bully any player off the ball, dribbling was immense and playmaking as well. Goal and assist today.

Romelu Lukaku – 7,5: Picking up form right when Inter needs it. Has been incredible since April, and today scored a great solo goal within forty seconds of play.

Substitutes

Robin Gosens – 6: Replaced Dimarco in the 70′ minute. Came on against his former club and had acres of space on the left, able to create several chances in attack.

Kristjan Asllani – 6: Brought on for Nicolo Barella in the 80′ minute. Had a chance for a shot on goal with his weak foot that went just wide.

Edin Dzeko – 5,5: Came on for Romelu Lukaku in the 80′ minute. Was not fully involved, only had eight touches and did not contribute to play.

Stefan de Vrij – 6: Substituted on for Bastoni in the 80′ minute. Needed to bring defensive solidarity and did his best with the little time he was given.

Matteo Darmian – N/A: Entered the pitch in the 83′ for an injured D’Ambrosio. Did not play enough to be able to be rated.

Manager

Simone Inzaghi – 7: Put out nearly his strongest lineup in the hopes of securing UCL football for next season and did exactly that. Goal achieved with a game spare!

Referee

Daniele Orsato – 5,5: Atalanta had eighteen (!) fouls with only one yellow card. It felt as though some Inter players were being targeted at times. Could have done better.

Team Performance

Inter – 7: Supercoppa trophy, Coppa Italia trophy, top 4 secured, one more to go. Goals were achieved despite a rocky season, but did so fashionably today.
