Empoli coach Paolo Zanetti has made no secret of the fact that he expects Inter Milan and Juventus target Guglielmo Vicario to leave this summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, Zanetti admitted that Vicario deserves a move to a bigger club.

26-year-old Vicario has emerged as one of the outstanding young goalkeepers in Serie A over the past two seasons.

Since Empoli came up from Serie B and signed Vicario, he has been one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers outside the big clubs in the Italian top flight.

It is no surprise, then, that the keeper’s performances have earned him links to some of Serie A’s elite.

Inter are reportedly keen. The Nerazzurri have made Vicario their top target to replace Andre Onana should the Cameroonian leave.

Meanwhile, Juventus could also be ready to go head-to-head with Inter for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Of course, for any club interested in Vicario there would be the matter of negotiating a deal with Empoli.

However, the Tuscan club’s coach has seemingly given a very big hint as to the prospect of doing so.

Empoli coach Zanetti was asked about Vicario’s future.

He replied, “I don’t think that he’ll stay here.”

“I think that after the two seasons that he’s had here, he deserves to go to a big club,” the Empoli coach continued.

“My hope is that he can go somewhere to play at a very high level of football,” Zanetti continued. “That’s where he deserves to be, and not just because he’s a great player on the pitch.”
