Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to return to recover from injury and return to training next Monday, ahead of the Champions League final against Man City on June 10.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Mkhitaryan is currently recovering from a quadriceps injury. The Armenian suffered a strain to the rectus femoris muscle in his left thigh during the Nerazzurri’s Champions League semifinal second leg win over AC Milan.

At the moment, Mkhitaryan is working on his individual recovery program.

However, the 34-year-old former Arsenal and Roma man has a return to full training in sight.

Mkhitaryan’s goal is to be ready to play against Manchester City next month.

The Armenian has missed out on two league matches as well as the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina. However, he has always been aiming for the clash with City to make a return.

Mkhitaryan will also certainly be absent from the squad for next weekend’s Serie A clash with Torino.

However, the 34-year-old is aiming to be back not long after then.

By returning at the start of next week, Mkhitaryan should have just under a full week of training with his teammates in view of the final against Man City in Istanbul.

It will then remain to be seen whether Mkhitaryan is fit enough to play in the final. Also uncertain is whether to Armenian will be fit enough to start, as he has been throughout the Champions League knockouts.

Mkhitaryan has emerged as a key player for Inter this season since joining from Roma last summer. The 34-year-old, who has also played for Borussia Dortmund and Shakhtar Donetsk, has made 48 appearances across all competitions.

According to the Gazzetta, there is every chance that Mkhitaryan can make it 49 against City.
