Former Lazio and Torino goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani feels that Inter Milan will be more than just “sacrificial lambs” in the Champions League final against Man City on June 10.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, Marchegiani argued that the Nerazzurri can more than have their say in Istanbul.

Few would deny that Man City are the favourites in next month’s Champions League final.

Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens have looked formidable, even unstoppable at times in both the Premier League and in Europe this season.

However, this hardly means that Inter are down for the count before a ball is kicked.

Former Bayern Munich and Inter striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has even suggested that the Nerazzurri can even use their underdog status to their advantage against such a strong City team.

What is clear, however, is that Inter will have to take the right approach against City.

If the Nerazzurri manage to be proactive when they can, they could unsettle the English champions. Inter have already gotten impressive wins over strong possession-based teams like Barcelona and Napoli this season.

Marchegiani: Inter Milan Can Play For Their Chance Vs Man City

In the view of former Biancocelesti keeper Marchegiani, Inter will go to Istanbul with the right mindset.

He predicts that Inter will go with the intention of causing City problems.

“One vital factor to consider is how Inzaghi prepares for important matches,” Marchegiani argued.

“I watched City in a final where they went in as favourites but lost to Chelsea,” he noted. “They were unable to express themselves up to their standards.”

“Inter have to be aware that they’re playing a one-off match and anything can happen,” he argued.

“Sometimes Inzaghi makes very cerebral choices that don’t seem strictly necessary,” Marchegiani argues. “But he always prepares for these matches mentally. They’ll go to cause City problems, and not just be the sacrificial victims.”
