Newly-appointed Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino will try to convince striker Romelu Lukaku to stay after his Inter Milan loan ends.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who report that the Argentine coach will speak with Lukaku and try to convince him to remain as part of his project at Stamford Bridge for next season.

As far as Lukaku’s desire, he has been very clear.

The Belgian wants to stay at Inter next season. He is hoping that the Nerazzurri and Chelsea can come to an agreement on another loan deal over the summer.

However, Chelsea’s change in coach has always appeared as though it could be a complicating factor in Lukaku’s situation.

Now, Mauricio Pochettino has taken over as the Blues’ head coach for next season. Reports suggest that the former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain boss has been keen on Lukaku staying at Chelsea when his loan at Inter ends.

Pochettino Wants Lukaku To Stay At Chelsea When Inter Loan Ends

According to the Gazzetta, Pochettino will sit down with Lukaku to make exactly that clear.

The coach sees striker as the major problem position in this current Chelsea team.

Accordingly, Pochettino will want to have a player like Lukaku at his disposal for next season.

The 51-year-old will hope that he can convince the 30-year-old of his place in the project. Lukaku’s first season at Chelsea after a massive money move in the summer of 2021 can hardly have been deemed a success.

Chelsea are likely set for a major squad overhaul during the summer. For Pochettino, bringing Lukaku for a third chance in London would be a welcome aspect of that.
