Inter Milan wingback Robin Gosens has been called up for Germany in their upcoming friendly matches.

This is confirmed by an announcement of the entire national team squad made by the German FA on their Twitter account, which includes the Nerazzurri man among the 26-player squad for friendlies against Ukraine, Poland, and Colombia.

Gosens has been in and out of the German national team over the past couple of years.

The wingback’s fine form for Atalanta earned him a call-up for EURO 2020, when Die Mannschaft were coached by Joachim Loew.

At that tournament, Gosens had been one of Germany’s outstanding performers.

This form for Atalanta and Germany led Inter to sign Gosens in January of last year.

However, the German has not managed to consistently replicate his best form in a Nerazzurri shirt. Injuries and fitness issues have played a major role in disruptin Gosens over the past season and a half.

Moreover, when Gosens joined, Ivan Perisic had been clear first-choice on the left-flank. Displacing the Croat proved impossible for Gosens.

Then, this season, Federico Dimarco has emerged as the main starter in Gosens’s position.

This lack of playing time led to Gosens not being called up by Hansi Flick for the World Cup in Qatar. The 28-year-old admitted that this was one of the biggest disappointments of his career.

Robin Gosens Back In The Fold For Germany

In recent matches, however, Gosens has gained traction at Inter.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has made full use of his squad through a packed fixture list. The coach has not hesitated to put his trust in Gosens.

Moreover, there is a sense that the ex-Atalanta man is finally starting to show his best qualities on a regular basis. Gosens has looked truly fit for the first time.

This improving form at club level has led to Gosens being part of Germany’s squad again.
