Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has two training sessions in which to get fit enough to start in the Champions League final against Man City.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that it is now a race against time for Mkhitaryan to be fit for Saturday’s match.

There is no real doubt that Mkhitaryan will be in Inter’s squad for Saturday’s final in Istanbul.

The 34-year-old has fully recovered from his thigh injury to make a return to high-intensity individual training. This has been the case for a few days.

However, today is Mkhitaryan’s first full session back with his teammates.

Then, in the final group session in Italy before the team leave for Turkey tomorrow, the former Roma and Borussia Dortmund midfielder will take part.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan Has Two Training Sessions To Get Fit To Start Vs Man City

Reportedly, if Mkhitaryan is fit enough to start, he will do so. The Armenian is a key part of this Inter team.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi sees Mkhitaryan as tactically key to balancing the midfield in big matches.

Accordingly, the coach would like to have the player fit against City.

However, Tuttosport note, Mkhitaryan is running out of time. The 34-year-old has just a couple of training sessions in which to prove to Inzaghi that he’s ready to start.

If Inzaghi is uncertain, then the key Nerazzurri man could be ready for the bench but unable to start against City.

If Mkhitaryan were to start on the bench in the final, then it would be Marcelo Brozovic who starts ahead of him. Then, former Arsenal and Manchester United man Mkhitaryan could play as a substitute.

This season, Mkhitaryan has made a total of 48 appearances for Inter across all competitions. In the process, he has scored five goals.
