Man City and Inter Milan may have only one Champions League winner in their squads between them, but that doesn’t mean that there’s any lack of big final experience.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

The identity of the one player in either the City or Inter squads with a Champions League winner’s medal may come as a surprise.

City third choice goalkeeper Scott Carson was part of the Liverpool team that won the competition in 2005.

In fact, the 37-year-old Englishman won the trophy at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium. That was part of the Reds’ “Miracle in Istanbul” comeback against AC Milan.

Other than Carson, however, there are no players in either squad to have lifted the trophy.

Plenty Of Big Match Experience In Both Man City & Inter Milan Squads

That certainly doesn’t mean that there’s any lack of big final experience between the two teams, however.

First off, there’s the fact that City played in the Champions League final in 2021. That Cityzens side lost to Chelsea.

Ederson, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Riyard Mahrez, Kevin De Bruyne, Nathan Aké, Aymeric Laporte, Rodri, and Carson are all still part of the City squad from that final.

Meanwhile, midfielder Gundogan was part of the Borussia Dortmund team that reached the final in 2013. The German actually got on the scoresheet in that match.

However, a late Arjen Robben goal meant that it was Bayern who won the Champions League that time around.

Meanwhile, there are a number of players still in the Inter squad from the team that lost the Europa League final to Sevilla in 2010.;

Stefan de Vrij, Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Roberto Gagliardini, Romelu Lukaku, and Lautaro Martinez remain from that final.

Then, there are Inter duo Edin Dzeko and Andre Onana. The pair reached the Champions League semifinals with Roma and Ajax respectively.

Nerazzurri midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also won both the Europa League and Europa Conference League. The former with Manchester United and the latter with Roma.

Lastly, there are some players in the final who have achieved glory on the international stage.

Inter striker Martinez and City striker Julian Alvarez won the World Cup with Argentina in the winter.

Meanwhile, Nerazzurri trio Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, and Francesco Acerbi won EURO 2020 with Italy.
