Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez feels that playing in the World Cup and Champions League finals are “different shirts, but the same feeling.”

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews, the Argentine gave his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s final against Manchester City.

Martinez has had quite the season.

In December, the 25-year-old was part of the Argentina national team that won the World Cup. In the final of the competition, they beat France.

The Nerazzurri man will certainly be hoping that things go the same for him tomorrow evening.

Inter will have the most formidable of opposite up against them. Man City are one of the strongest teams in all of European football.

However, in Martinez, they can count on a striker who has already been there and done that when it comes to playing in big high-pressure finals.

Lautaro Martinez On Playing In World Cup & UCL Finals

“They’re the two most important finals a player can play in,” Martinez said of playing in both the World Cup and the Champions League finals.

“You change to a different shirt, but the feelings are the same,” he went on.

“It’s unique, the sense of going all the way, thanks to the work we’ve done all year. Thanks to the strength of the group that, as Darmian said, is important to achieving our goals.”

“We are at the last step, we must be ready, it will be important for all the Nerazzurri people, the team and the club.”

“We know that City are a very difficult team to come up against, given both their individual and collective quality,” Martinez said.

“We’re ready to fight, we’ve prepared well over the last few days,” he added. “We still have two training sessions, and then it will be time for the match.”

“It’s certainly been a great season,” he said. “We’ve also won the Supercoppa and the Coppa Italiana, I won the World Cup.”

“Now we’re playing against Manchester City,” the striker said. “I’m very excited.”

“We hope to end on a high note.”

Asked if he’s still dealing with any leg injury, Martinez said that “That problem is now behind me.”

“I had a very intense season,” he noted. “I felt a lot of pain during the first part of the season, but then I recovered.”

“I spoke to Scaloni, he gave me the opportunity to rest a bit given the intense season, I’ll get some treatment.”

Of what the team need to win tomorrow, Martinez said that “We can’t lack personality. You need heart, a desire to win, to lift trophies.”

“In recent years we’ve brought trophies that the club had gone a long time without,” Martinez noted. “We have a great chance and we’ll fight for it head on.”

And of parallels with Treble-winning former Inter striker Diego Milito, Martinez said that “I’m aware of what Milito did here.”

“I’m proud to be part of this team, and I hope to play a great game, help my teammates, and do the same thing that he did in the final.”
